This shawl was knitted according to Magdalena’s Bytnar design “Amori Matris”.
Scheepjes Whirl yarn cake #772. 215g / 1000m. 60% Cotton, 40% Acrylic.
This summer, I got the chance to try out three different types of cake yarn. I have to admit that I liked all three but each had its own advantages and disadvantages.
The first brand I tried was the Sheepjes Whirl. Very nice yarn. Quite a large choice of colours. This yarn is delicately twirled. The individual threads hold together quite nicely. Crochet projects look neat and are quite easy to make from this yarn.
A small disadvantage – I didn’t like the knots joining different colors together. However, this is not the end of the world as one often has to cut string and join it in a different place anyway (so as to hide the transitions).
The greater disadvantage – the length of the yarn. 1000 meters is just not enough for me. Wanting my scarves to at least qualify as medium size, I was forced to stick with more openwork patterns. Of course, one could try to merge the yarn is single-colored Whirlette yarn. But this is a topic for a separate discussion.
To summarize: Great yarn. Would I choose to use this yarn again? Yes

Šią vasarą turėjau galimybę išbandyti trijų rūšių melanžinius siūlus. Turiu pripažinti, kad visos trys rūšys man patiko, bet kiekviena turėjų savų privalumų ir trūkumų.
Pirmieji išbandytieji siūlai – Scheepjes Whirl. Labai šaunūs siūlai. Pakankamai didelis spalvų pasirinkimas. Siūlas lengvai suktas ir gijos gražiai laikosi kartu. Neriasi labai tvarkingai ir lengvai.
Pirmasis minusas – nepatiko mazgai skirtingų spalvų sujungimo vietose. Na bet tai nedidelė bėda, nes ir taip, norint išlaikyti gražius perėjimus, gan dažnai tenka siūlą nukirpti ir jungti kitoje vietoje.
Didesnis trūkumas – siūlo ilgis. Visgi man asmeniškai 1000 metrų yra mažai. Norėdama, kad mano skaros būtų bent vidutinio dydžio, turėjau rinktis stipriai ažūrinius raštus. Žinoma, galima šiuos siūlus kombinuoti su vienspalviais Whirlette siūlais, bet tai jau atskira istorija.
Trumpai apibendrinant: šaunūs siūlai. Ar megzčiau dar kartą? – Taip.
